Marrone biopesticide use tops 1 million ha

The area of US crops treated with US biopesticide company Marrone Bio Innovations' (MBI - Davis, California) Reynoutria sachalinensis extract-based biofungicides, Regalia and Regalia Rx, and its bioinsecticide, Grandevo (Chromobacterium subtsugae strain PRAA4-1T), has exceeded 1 million acres (404,700 ha). Most of the area treated consisted of high-value specialty crops, but it was boosted by the limited introduction of Regalia Rx on maize and soybeans last year, the company points out. The area of citrus crops in Florida treated with Grandevo for the control of Asian citrus psyllids (Diaphorina citri) increased last year. MBI began producing Grandevo at its manufacturing facility in Bangor, Michigan late last year, with Regalia due to be produced there in future (Agrow No 679, p 4).
