US EPA to approve Vestaron's Versitude
The US EPA proposes to register US company Vestaron's (Kalamazoo, Michigan) bioinsecticide, Versitude (GS-omega/kappa-Hxtx-Hv1a), for the suppression of cabbage loopers (Trichoplusia ni) on turf, ornamentals and edible crops. The active ingredient is a peptide that acts as a central nervous system inhibitor in insects. Vestaron applied for approval for field, greenhouse and home garden use. The EPA notified receipt of the registration application for a 20% formulation termed GS-U-ACTX-Hv1a-SEQ2 in August 2012 (Agrow No 647, p 20). It had previously indicated that the EPA had begun reviewing its first biopesticide approval application (Agrow No 645, p 20). The company is developing products based on spider venom toxins. The EPA decision is open to public comment until January 29th.
