Division continues on EU GM maize
Opposing sides on the proposed EU cultivation approval of DuPont/Dow AgroSciences' genetically modified insect-resistant Herculex I (1507) maize continue to strengthen their positions. The full European Parliament has supported a resolution urging EU Ministers to vote against the approval. The resolution was put forward by the Parliament's Environment Committee in December (Agrow No 679, p 8). Meanwhile, at a biotechnology industry meeting, supporters of the technology have argued that a positive vote will benefit EU agriculture and the economy.
