Brazil OKs Arysta’s Atabron on earworms
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has authorised the use of Arysta LifeScience's insecticide, Atabron 50 (chlorfluazuron), for the control of earworms (Helicoverpa spp). Infestations of the pest on Brazil's cotton and soybean crops has led to declarations of emergencies in six states, and emergency regulations from central government (Agrow passim). The emulsion concentrate formulation acts as an insect growth regulator. It is already sold for use on cotton to control cotton leafworms (Alabama argillacea), and soybeans against velvetbean caterpillars (Anticarsia gemmatalis), and sunflower loopers (Rachiplusia nu), as well as on maize, tomatoes and cabbages. The Ministry has authorised several new and established products for use against earworms in the past year (Agrow passim).
