Spain sets harmonised first step towards traceability
The Spanish national phytosanitary committee approved in December a model form for gathering information from farms in order to fulfill regulatory requirements on the sustainable use of pesticides. An agreement on the form was reached among regional Ministries of Agriculture to create a harmonised system to be implemented across Spain. The parties consider the move a first step in creating a national traceability system, and will be under way "in the coming months". National legislation to transpose the EU sustainable use Directive (128/2009) was passed in autumn 2012, creating a framework of action. That was followed by an ordinance last February, setting the duties of growers and pesticide users.
