Brazil registrants may alter biopesticide labels

Companies with Brazilian biopesticide approvals may alter their labels and product information under new rules. The indicated use only has to contain the biological target, while companies may at their own discretion add which crops the product can be used on. Regulation Ato No 6, which covers products containing live, naturally occurring micro-organisms, has been issued in the official gazette. The rules took effect on January 31st. The two lower of four toxicological classifications (III and IV) are exempt from the requirement to carry the skull and cross bones on labels and packaging. The Ministry of Agriculture explains that without a maximum residue limit set for a particular crop, there had already been no requirement under general pesticide approval rules to indicate crops on labels.
