DuPont Pioneer/2Blades seek ASR resistance
DuPont seed subsidiary DuPont Pioneer has entered into a research collaboration with the US charitable organisation, Two Blades Foundation (2Blades - Evanston, Illinois), to identify genes providing durable resistance to Asian soybean rust (ASR - Phakopsora pachyrhizi). Extensive screening of soybean germplasm for durable and race-independent resistance against the disease has been unsuccessful, the parties point out. "This collaboration can advance both breeding and biotechnology approaches to combat this devastating soybean disease," says DuPont Pioneer's senior research director, Gusui Wu. The partnership builds on a joint research programme with the Brazilian Universidade Federal de Viçosa and the UK Sainsbury Laboratory, led by 2Blades, to identify ASR resistance genes.
