The South American Southern Cone trading bloc has appointed Luis Eduardo Rangel as director of the Southern Cone plant health committee, the Cosave. He takes the position on March 1st for a two-year term. Leadership of the Cosave has passed to each of its member states, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay, once and the latest appointment is the second for a Brazilian. The Cosave functions as a reference point for the Mercosul trading bloc on phytosanitary issues. Mr Rangel recently became director of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture’s plant health department. He was previously co-ordinator general of the input inspectorate department’s pesticide office.
