EU approval for L-ascorbic acid fungicide
EU approval has been granted to Citrex Europe's new fungicide, L-ascorbic acid, with effect from July 1st. The company submitted its application in 2004, which included Dipper, a 23 g/litre soluble concentrate, for use as a foliar spray on potatoes and tomatoes, and for dipping flower bulbs. L-ascorbic acid already holds provisional approval in the Netherlands. The conditions attached to the EU approval require member states to consider appropriate measures to protect aquatic and soil organisms, and ground water, when approving products. In addition, the company must submit confirmatory information by June 30th 2016 on: the natural background of L-ascorbic acid in the environment confirming a low chronic risk for fish and a low risk for aquatic invertebrates, algae, earthworms and soil micro-organisms; and the risk of contaminating ground water.
