Monsanto seeks Australian OK for TruFlex canola
Monsanto has applied to the Australian Office of the Gene Technology (OGTR) to commercialise its genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant TruFlex (MON88302) canola. It tolerates higher rates of glyphosate herbicide and allows greater flexibility in glyphosate applications than the first-generation Roundup Ready canola, the company points out. Food Standards Australia New Zealand approved food derived from the canola line last year (Agrow No 655, p 21). It has been authorised for cultivation in the US and Canada, with food-use approvals in Japan and Mexico. The OGTR expects to issue a risk assessment and management plan in July.
