Incotec/Lonza deal on seed-coated rice
Dutch seed coating company Incotec (Enhuizen) and Swiss chemical company Lonza (Basel) have agreed a collaboration to develop, register and market metaldehyde-coated rice seeds for the control of golden-apple snails (Pomacea canaliculata) on rice. The coating allows controlled release of the active ingredient, which is not affected by the required pre-sowing soaking process, the companies say. It is being launched under the "SnailWise project" name and the companies expect Malaysia to be the first country in South-East Asia where the product will be launched. The companies cite estimates of the pest causing global economic losses of between $55 million and $245 million annually.
