US regulators pressed to release GM alfalfa documents

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has illegally withheld documents related to its decision to approve Monsanto/Forage Genetics’ genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready alfalfa, according to a lawsuit filed last week by the Center for Food Safety (CFS). The complaint requests the US District Court for the District of Columbia to compel the APHIS to release more than 1,000 documents associated with its approval of Monsanto's GM alfalfa, suggesting that "undue political pressure" may be behind the agency's decision to deregulate the GM crop.
