Canadian approval for Cibus' SU Canola

The US technology company, Cibus Global (San Diego, California), has received Canadian approval for its sulfonylurea herbicide-tolerant canola, SU Canola. The non-genetically modified crop has received plant novel trait approval by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada, Cibus points out. SU Canola, which is Cibus' first commercial product, is already available in the US. The company will now move forward with plans to make the product available in Canada. It will provide Canadian farmers with "sound stewardship options to deal with weed resistance resulting from over-use of current herbicide-tolerant GM varieties", Cibus states.
