GT73 rapeseed decision passed back to EU Commission
The European Commission is free to proceed with its proposed renewal of the EU approval of Monsanto’s genetically modified glyphosate herbicide-tolerant GT73 oilseed rape. EU member states in an appeal committee once again failed to agree on whether to accept or reject the proposal, having done the same in the earlier regulatory committee (Agrow No 682, p 11). The approval covers food and feed produced from the GM line. At the regulatory committee meeting, the Dutch delegation expressed its disappointment that the GT73 monitoring plan was not amended to take account of adventitious GM oilseed rape populations along transport routes, particularly railway tracks where regular herbicide applications are made. It urged the Commission to consider suitable monitoring, related to the amount of inland transport.
