Canadian greens urge action on clothianidin

Four Canadian environmental groups have written to the Health Minister urging action on the neonicotinoid insecticide, clothianidin, because of concerns over the lack of "critical toxicity data" related to impacts on bees. The Sierra Club Canada Foundation, the David Suzuki Foundation, Equiterre and the Western Canada Wilderness Committee sent a follow-up letter to Minister Rona Ambrose nearly six months after filing an objection to the Pest Management Regulatory Agency's (PMRA) decision to renew the conditional registrations for products based on clothianidin. The PMRA extended the deadline for the submission of certain data, including a study on chronic toxicity to bees, until December 2015.
