Brazil state declines emergency earworm controls

The Brazilian state of Sao Paulo is not to declare a state of plant health emergency due to infestations of earworms (Helicoverpa armigera). The state government does not consider the incidence levels sufficient to warrant such a move. The measure would allow the import and use of emamectin benzoate insecticide to control the pest among the measures (Agrow No 677, p 17). Several other states have declared states of emergencies due to earworm infestations (Agrow passim).
