EU drafts rules for biocide product renewals
The European Commission has finalised draft procedures for the renewal of biocidal product approvals that were originally authorised under the mutual recognition system. Under this system, once a product has received its first national approval, applicants may ask other countries to recognise the authorisation without repeating the assessment. The existing EU biocidal products Regulation (528/2012), which covers non-crop pesticides, already contains provisions for renewing product approvals granted by one member state. However, there is a need for supplementary rules for the renewal of authorisations subject to mutual recognition in two or more member states, the Commission notes.
