Fenbutatin oxide to be withdrawn in EU
A proposal to withdraw EU approval for the acaricide, fenbutatin oxide, has been cleared by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health. The active ingredient gained EU re-registration for use in greenhouses in 2011, on the condition that the notifier, BASF, submitted further toxicological data on an impurity (Agrow No 612, p 12). However, the company informed the authorities that it did not intend to submit further information. The proposal requires formal adoption by the European Commission, which will set a phase-out schedule.
