Marrone seeks US approval for biofumigant
The US biopesticide company, Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI - Davis, California), has applied for US EPA approval for its biofumigant, MBI-601 (Muscador albus strain SA13), for the control of nematodes, insects and soil-borne diseases. It will be targeted at high-value fruit, vegetable and ornamental markets. Future uses may include post-harvest, turf, silviculture and seed treatments. MBI-601 is seen as an alternative to conventional fumigants, many of which have been restricted or removed from the market due to human health or environmental concerns, the company points out. It is expected to have a shorter restricted entry interval for workers than traditional fumigants. MBI-601 is the seventh active ingredient submitted by MBI for US approval.
