Amvac drops Australian quintozene effort
American Vanguard subsidiary Amvac Chemical has withdrawn its application to maintain the registration of the fungicide, quintozene, in Australia. The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) suspended quintozene approvals in April 2010 due to the presence of undeclared dioxin impurities at levels that might pose risk to applicators (Agrow No 589, p 23). The Authority extended that one-year suspension to allow time for the generation of new data and again for the application to be considered. The application has subsequently been withdrawn. The latest suspension was due to expire this April (Agrow No 662, p 24). The APVMA has decided to continue the suspension for a further three months until July 14th.
