EU approvals to be extended for nine more ais
Proposals to extend EU approval periods for nine active ingredients have been voted through by the EU regulatory committee. They include AgraQuest’s (now Bayer CropScience’s) biofungicide, Bacillus subtilis strain QST 713, BASF’s fungicide, metrafenone, Dow AgroSciences’ insecticide, spinosad, and Syngenta’s insecticide, thiamethoxam. The other five long-established ais were re-registered in 2007: the herbicides clodinafop and rimsulfuron, the insecticide, pirimicarb, and the fungicides, tolclofos-methyl and triticonazole. Existing approval expiration dates of January 31st 2017 would be extended to April 30th 2018. Applications for renewal have been submitted for all nine ais and the extension is to allow more time for procedures to be completed. They join numerous ais for which extensions have been necessary to allow for delays in the EU renewal process (Agrow passim).
