Seed companies ask judge to void Hawaiian ordinance

Four major seed companies have asked a federal court to summarily declare invalid an ordinance approved by the US state of Hawaii's Kauai County Council that imposes restrictions on pesticide use and requires disclosure of the genetically modified crops grown on the island. The motion for partial summary judgment calls on the US District Court for the District of Hawaii to block the county from enacting Bill 2491, arguing that the legislation was improperly adopted and violates local and state laws.
