EFSA reviews models for agchem risk assessment
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued a scientific opinion on good practice for the development and evaluation of models to assess the ecological effects of pesticides. The opinion identifies the critical steps and factors that must be considered, and stresses that the availability and quality of data are of the “utmost importance” at all stages of modelling. From a regulatory point of view, it would be beneficial to have a set of agreed models that can be used in standard risk assessments, it notes. The Authority recommends comparing the different models used to address the same risk assessment question. The opinion is available on the EFSA website at: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/efsajournal/pub/3589.htm.
