Brazil warns non-crop agchem vendors
The marketing of domestic garden pesticides for use in professional gardening, in orchards or plantations, is prohibited, the Brazilian national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa warns. It cites the Ministry of Health regulation, Portaria 322/97, which controls the marketing of home and garden pesticides direct to consumers. The agency has been notified of several instances of such products being marketed for agricultural use. Home and garden products are ineffective in agricultural use as agricultural pests are different to those in the home and garden, the Anvisa explains. Breach of the rules carries a fine of R$2,000–R$1.5 million ($1,140-$0.9 million).
