EFSA clears renewal of GM GT73 oilseed rape

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has given safety clearance to the renewal of the EU approval for Monsanto’s genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant GT73 oilseed rape. Monsanto has submitted two applications to continue marketing of food and feed produced from the GM line. GT73 oilseed rape was first approved for import into the EU in 2005 ( Agrow No 479, p 12). Scientific information issued since that time has not raised any new safety concerns regarding the crop, the EFSA says. The Authority’s opinion will be considered by the European Commission and EU member states before a final decision is reached.
