EFSA issues agchem study guidance

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued revised guidance documents for pesticide risk assessments for birds and mammals. The documents follow a consultation held by the EFSA in 2008 on its planned revisions ( Agrow No 550, p 12). The guidance adopts a tiered approach to assess the risk of mortality and reproductive effects. A first-tier assessment procedure has been developed for a large range of scenarios including for different crops and different types of pesticide uses. Guidance is also given on the range of options available for higher-tier assessment such as refined dietary exposure studies using ecology data for relevant species. The documents are available on the EFSA’s website at: http:/
