New group to monitor EU sustainable pesticide use rules
The European Commission has confirmed the mandate for the expert group that will monitor the implementation of new rules on the sustainable use of pesticides and IPM in the EU. The formation of the group is one of the provisions of the EU sustainable use of pesticides Directive (2009/128), which came into force last November ( Agrow No 581, p 8). The group will cover information exchange and best practice for: national action plans; IPM; buffer zones; training; inspection of application equipment; and the indicators used to measure impacts on health and the environment. It will review future proposals and develop guidance. The group will meet at least once a year and consist of experts from member states, the Commission, the agrochemical industry, NGOs, and international organisations such as the OECD and the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation.
