EFSA seeks environmental risk assessment aims
The European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) is seeking comments on establishing clear protection goals for conducting environmental risk assessments. General protection objectives are given in EU pesticide legislation, but specific protection goals for the different environmental compartments are required, the EFSA says. It plans to hold a stakeholder workshop on April 15th 2010 in Parma, Italy. The work is part of the EFSA’s planned revisions to its guidance on assessments for aquatic and terrestrial ecotoxicology. An earlier consultation on its proposals indicated concerns relating to assessing endocrine disruption effects and pesticide risks to bees ( Agrow No 581, p 10).
