French Council negates toxic effects of GM maize lines
The French High Council of Biotechnologies (HCB) has negated the findings of the research by the French independent research body, Criigen, which claimed toxic health effects of three lines of genetically modified maize. The study, published in the International Journal of Biological Sciences, claimed that the maize lines produced deleterious effects on the kidneys and liver of experimental rats. The lines included Monsanto's insect-resistant MON810, glyphosate-tolerant NK603 and corn rootworm-resistant MON863. The scientific committee of the HCB said that the research provides no admissible scientific evidence about any haematological toxicity produced by the maize lines.
