USDA mulls Syngenta's Viptera maize

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has proposed the deregulation of Syngenta’s genetically modified insect-resistant Viptera (MIR162) maize. That would be the last stage in the regulatory process following EPA approval ( Agrow No 558, p 22) and the completion of FDA consultations in late 2008 ( Agrow No 559, p 21). MIR162 maize received its first global approval in Brazil in November 2009 ( Agrow No 580, p 32).
