French regulatory agencies to be merged
The French council of Ministers has adopted a ministerial order for the creation of a new public health agency from the merger of the French food safety agency, the AFSSA, with the agency for environmental and occupational health safety, the AFSSET. The new agency will be operational from July 1st, following the publication of an order. It will take over the missions, resources and personnel of both agencies. It is expected to enable more effective handling of issues such as water quality, farm worker health, and the regulation of chemicals, including pesticides, biocides and substances covered by the EU Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation.
