Late season agchem prices down in Brazil
Pesticide prices fell in December in Brazil, according to a farmers’ association. All classes of pesticides suffered price drops. Herbicide prices were down by 2.8%, but the overall fall was just 1.2%, the Goias state agriculture federation, the FAEG, notes. Most pesticide active ingredients are imported and the falling value of the US dollar is likely to be behind price falls, the federation says. It expects demand to fall as the current season draws to a close, which “would not allow price rises”. The scenario is not the same across the sector, it believes. The rising detections of Asian soybean rust ( Phakopsora pachyrhizi - see this issue) “will provoke more fungicide applications”.
