Warfarin sodium nears EU biocide approval
EU Environment Ministers have cleared proposals by the European Commission to award EU approval to use of the rodenticide, warfarin sodium, as a biocide. Once formally adopted by the Commission, the active ingredient will be added to Annex I of the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8). Warfarin sodium was assessed as part of the review of existing biocides, with Ireland acting as rapporteur member state. The ai was supported through the review by four companies: Hentschke & Sawatzki, Killgerm Chemicals, Spiess-Urania Chemicals and Vetyl Chemie.
