Agchem sales report deadline nears in Brazil
Pesticide retailers and distributors in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais have until January 29th to send their sales reports for the second half of 2009. The reports are sent to the regional Ministry of Agriculture’s crop protection office, the IMA. Its pesticide control system, the Sisagro, audits sales to “more effectively inspect the market” ( Agrow No 571, p 17). IMA director-general Altino Neto emphasises the system’s importance. “The half-year reports allow detailed controls of pesticide sales, including checks that farms and estates carry out legal duties towards human and health and the environment,” he says. There are over 1,000 retailers in the state, and 522 infractions were registered among 10,000 estates and farms in 2009. Failure to send reports can lead to fines.
