Mexican import approvals for GM maize lines

Monsanto has received Mexican import approvals for three lines of genetically modified insect-resistant maize. The approvals for Genuity SmartStax, VT Triple PRO and VT Double PRO will enable US and Canadian growers to fully market their grain this year, Monsanto points out. VT Double PRO ( Bt Cry2Ab2 + Cry1A.105) allows reduced refuge control of above-ground pests, while VT Triple PRO (Cry2Ab2 + Cry1A.105 + Cry3Bb1) controls above and below-ground pests. SmartStax combines VT Triple PRO with Dow AgroSciences/ DuPont’s Herculex Xtra (Cry1F + Cry34Ab1 + Cry35Ab1). All three lines are tolerant to Monsanto’s Roundup (glyphosate) herbicide, while SmartStax is also glufosinate-tolerant.
