French research advocates 30% agchem cut

A government-commissioned study has found that a 30% cut in pesticide usage in France would only reduce production by 6% once more effective practices were adopted. However, it warns that attempts to meet the government’s goal of halving pesticide use by 2018 would be “arduous” and require an overhaul of the production system, impacting significantly on production and profit margins. That objective is the central plank of the government’s Grenelle de l'Environment policy ( Agrow No 530, p 13).
