EFSA studies protected crop areas
The area of protected crops in ten eastern EU member states averaged some 15,000 ha between 2006 and 2008, according to a report commissioned by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Poland had the largest area, at some 7,900 ha, followed by Romania with 2,357 ha. The report is part of an EFSA project to compile an inventory of EU protected crop systems and their emissions of agrochemicals to the environment ( Agrow No 567, p 11). It will contribute to the EFSA’s development of new guidance on evaluating pesticide emissions from protected crop systems.
