EU to remove three biocide ai uses
The European Commission has stipulated that diazinon-based biocides for non-crop use as insecticides, acaricides or to control other arthropods must be removed from the EU market by March 1st 2011. The action follows the withdrawal of support for the active ingredient for this use in the EU review of existing biocidal ais. No complete dossier was submitted for the ai by the original deadline in 2006. The deadline was extended to 2008 when another company expressed interest. However, it only had data for the ai’s use in flea collars, which are outside the scope of the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8).
