US to fund pesticide safety training
The US EPA is offering up to $2 million for an organisation to conduct a five-year training programme aimed at reducing exposure to pesticides for agricultural workers and their families. The successful applicant must conduct a national “train the trainer” programme to educate farm workers about pesticide risks. The EPA expects to award some $350,000 for the scheme in fiscal 2010 and up to $400,000 in subsequent years. Around 400,000 farm workers and their families have been trained on pesticide safety under previous programmes, the Agency notes.
