Brazil Anvisa OKs mesosulfuron-methyl
Brazil’s national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, has registered Bayer CropScience’s sulfonylurea herbicide, mesosulfuron-methyl, as a new active ingredient. The agency approved the ai’s dossier last year ( Agrow No 568, p 19). Bayer has yet to submit a formulated product for approval, it told Agrow. The product remains in development, it says. Mesosulfuron-methyl was first launched in France in 2002 as Archipel and Atlantis ( Agrow No 399, p 25). The herbicide was Bayer’s fourth-largest selling ai in 2008 with sales of €244 million ($345 million at the current rate - Agrow No 563, pp 5-7).
