Brazil suspends Granutox 150 G
Brazil suspended the production and import of American Vanguard’s insecticide, Granutox 150 G (phorate) at the same time that it banned products based on the acaricide, cyhexatin. The Ministry of Agriculture issued Act 67 prohibiting cyhexatin-based products last month ( Agrow No 584, p 16) and suspending Granutox 150 G. BASF produced and marketed the insecticide. Phorate is among the active ingredients that the Ministry of Health’s national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, is assessing. It called for the ban on cyhexatin as part of that investigation. The Ministry of the Environment’s protection agency, the Ibama, is also re-evaluating phorate. It fined BASF last year for production and sale of Granutox 150 G as it did not conform to its registration ( Agrow No 579, p 18). The ai’s registration covers use on beans, cotton, coffee, maize and potatoes.
