EFSA consults on assessing agchem residue risks
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is seeking comments on its draft guidance on methods to assess dietary exposure to pesticide residues. The document covers the assessment of exposure to single active ingredients. It proposes a method for performing probabilistic exposure assessments as a potential additional tool to the deterministic methods currently used. The latter are simple to use, but only estimate the exposure of one consumer, whereas probabilistic methods would allow estimates to be extended to multiple consumers, the EFSA notes. Comments are requested by May 10th 2010. The draft guidance document is available on the EFSA’s website at: http://www.efsa. europa.eu/en/consultations/call/ppr100301.htm. The EFSA is also looking at new statistical methods to assess cumulative exposure to multiple pesticides ( Agrow No 586, p 11).
