EU gains yet more time in WTO GMO case
The EU has reached an agreement with Argentina for an extension to the end of March for the EU’s deadline to comply with a WTO ruling on commercialising genetically modified crops in Europe. The previous deadline was the end of February ( Agrow No 586, p 9). Argentina, together with the US and Canada, won a WTO ruling in 2006 ordering the EU to stop delays in registering GM crops and lift national bans on EU-approved crops by November 2007 ( Agrow No 505, p 12). However, the EU has since negotiated repeated extensions to the deadline.
