MAI to acquire plant growth regulator

Makhteshim-Agan Industries’ (MAI) new European division is to acquire the plant growth regulator, Talent (carvone) from the Dutch company, Formuchem (Elst). It has agreed to purchase all rights, including patents and regulatory data protection. Talent inhibits stem development in potatoes prior to planting. Carvone was granted full EU approval in 2008, following an application from Formuchem forerunner Luxan, and added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive ( Agrow No 541, p 8). MAI seeks to market Talent globally. Director of MAI’s European region Ignacio Dominguez welcomes the deal. “Potatoes and seed treatment are both within our focus and we see good opportunities in significantly developing this product, alone or in combination with other products,” he says. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
