Bayer expands Australian pyroxasulfone tests

Bayer CropScience aims to carry out large-scale tests of the maize herbicide, Sakura ( Kumiai Chemical’s pyroxasulfone), in Australia this year. The results of small-plot trials have been “exceptionally positive”, says herbicide development manager John Ashby. The company has applied for a research permit to allow testing using commercial equipment on areas of over 10 ha. Bayer plans to launch the pre-emergence herbicide in 2011 ( Agrow No 570, p 23)
