Canadian soybeans to hit new high

Canadian farmers are expected to plant a record 5.3 million acres (2.1 million ha) of soybeans this year, representing a 16.5% increase over last year's area. Growers in the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are all likely to plant record levels this year, according to the March survey by Statistics Canada. Farmers in Ontario are expected to plant an additional 300,000 acres and those in Manitoba an extra 250,000 acres.
