Brazil prosecutors seek Goias emamectin ban
The Brazilian national and state of Goias public prosecutors have joined to seek an end to the use of the insecticide, emamectin benzoate in the state. They have recommended that the state agricultural protection office the Agrodefesa not approve the active ingredient’s use on human health concerns. The insecticide is among the few that have been shown to be effective against earworms (Helicoverpa armigera). The national Ministry of Agriculture has approved its use where individual states declare states of emergency against the pest on cotton and soybeans (Agrow No 677, p 17). Six states including Goias have done so. Federal and state prosecutors’ offices have launched a campaign against its use (Agrow No 681, p 17).
