EU CAP greening details to come into force

Detailed rules for implementing new EU “greening” measures that require farmers to adopt environmental practices in return for subsidies have been cleared by EU Ministers and the European Parliament. The move paves the way for the rules to come into force as part of the revised Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In order to get the unpopular greening measures through, the European Commission had to promise to review them after the first year of application, which starts in 2015 (Agrow No 686, p 8).
