EU agri groups urge support for science
EU agriculture and food policy should shift towards greater support for new technologies and science-based regulation. The call is made by a coalition of 11 European food and agriculture groups, including the European Crop Protection Association and EuropaBio, which represents the biotechnology industry. They urge a more streamlined policy that promotes research and development as a means of ensuring safe, high-quality and affordable food. “Innovation in agri-food has been too little encouraged and in some cases has been actively hampered by European decision makers,” the groups say.
