MBI seeks Canada/Mexico approvals for Venerate
The US biopesticide company, Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI - Davis, California), has submitted approval applications in Canada and Mexico for its bioinsecticide/acaricide/nematicide, Venerate (Burkholderia spp strain A396). The company launched the product in the US in April following its approval for use on a range of arable crops, fruit, vegetables, turf and ornamentals (Agrow No 687, p 26). MBI has seen a strong reception in Canada and Mexico for its biofungicides, Regalia Maxx (Reynoutria sachalinensis extract ) , and it expects Venerate to fill a similar need for an effective bioinsecticide. Both countries' farmers export a large portion of their crop production and Venerate's exemption from maximum residue limits can "help them manage the growing concerns about pesticide residues among importing countries", says MBI's chief operating officer, Hector Absi.
